Remarkable for its simplicity, the Taurus New Moon on April 26/27 may bring the quiet downtime you’ve been longing for.

Unlike recent lunations, this New Moon makes no major aspects with other planets, allowing it to express its inherent nature without condition.

“This is a mellow, self-sufficient and self-contained New Moon … basically, it’s pure, unadulterated Taurus energy at its fullest. No conditioning, no limits, no standards to stick to but our own.”

Christina, Zodiac Poetry

“It’s remarkable in how utterly lazy, serene, and peaceful it is! … This slow burn sensuality is all there is to this New Moon, and that’s enough! For those who set intentions at New Moons, consider this one your personal Sabbath, your day of rest, and set intentions to make rest days a permanent fixture in your life. Sleep in, dream, restore body and spirit.”

Clarissa, VivaCombusta!

“This New Moon is more suited to the here and now — emphasis on the here, with a bit of slack on the now. Instant gratification isn’t part of the process, though grazing and nibbling are likely along the way. Any Taurus Moon is a leisurely affair. This one sees ruler Venus in no rush at all.”

Kathy Biehl, Empowerment Unlimited

“There’s nothing complicated about this Moon. It’s quiet — an island amid other, more tangled influences. If you’re feeling lost or helpless, this New Moon can be your place to start something you have control over. Taurus is all about you. This should be something that makes you feel good (not deprived) because you’ll be living with it for a long time.”

Deeply Taurus

Many are often inspired by the New Moon to make their intentions for the upcoming lunar cycle. Christina of Zodiac Poetry offers some profound suggestions:

“The start of every lunation marks the ideal time to pursue an emotional and spiritual reboot; however, this placid, organic Taurean New Moon is the best time to remind ourselves that tending to our Soul and tending to our body are not mutually exclusive.

“Life as a spiritual being incarnated in a human form is a complex, multifaceted experience; contradictory, layered, both metaphysical and pragmatic at the same time. Our bodies are bound to the space-time continuum, which implies dealing with physics, biological functions, socio-political conditions, none of which denies our Divine nature.

“Ruling over bodily conditions, sensorial comforts, material possessions and finances, Taurus incorporates such awareness of the earthly plane of existence; pleasure and satisfaction become sacred, while physical security becomes the baseline from which our entire experience can flourish in both its concrete and supernal directions. Solid and organic like earth, Taurus is the fertile soil in which we can sow the seeds of abundance and prosperousness.

“A Taurus New Moon, especially if unaspected, is a gentle reminder that our most basic needs are valid and worthy of celebration – that we can’t reach for the peaks of the mystical experience unless we’re comfortable in our bodies, with our feet on the ground. We can’t reconnect to the Source through the Crown Chakra, if we’re not anchored in the Root Chakra first. As above, so below.”

Exalted Moon, Exalted Venus

Adding to the sweetness of this Taurus New Moon, the Moon is in her sign of exaltation — treated as an honored guest in Venus’ nighttime abode.

Even better, the lunation’s ruling planet Venus is also in her exaltation – Pisces, the night palace of Jupiter. In fact she’s actually trading spaces with Jupiter, who’s in Venus’ morning glory, Libra, in what astrologers call a mutual reception.

If that’s not a celestial prescription for allowing yourself to smell the roses (Venus’ favorite flower of course), I don’t know what is. Take time to engage in what makes you feel uplifted.

Super(New)Moon

According to Richard Nolle’s Supermoon tables, the Taurus New Moon is the first of three Supermoon New Moons of 2017.

Supermoons are New or Full Moons which occur when the Moon is near its perigee point — it’s closest approach to Earth.

Tides — and emotions — run higher. Our concerns may be more worldly or wild.

Unaspected New Moon

Not much to see here! This Taurus New Moon makes no major aspects to other planets.

“The focus here is on material simplicity and now would be a great time to de-clutter and simplify your life. Too often we overcomplicate simple things, now is a great time to remedy that. Chill out! Life is chaotic enough without intentionally making it more chaotic. Whatever else you’ve got going on in your life, find your one green pasture and revel in it.”

Inspired Genius?

Though not connected with the New Moon itself, there’s also a sign of some inspired genius in the air: inventive Mercury meets iconoclastic Uranus and trines pragmatic Saturn.

Jamie Partridge, Astrology King, explores each aspect in turn:

“Mercury conjunct Uranus gives flashes of insight and higher awareness… This electrifying influence on your brain makes this an ideal time for any mental or creative work requiring originality. Increased open-mindedness and intuition make it easier to grasp concepts and abstract ideas. The things you discover will surprise you and unexpected news may come your way.

“Mercury trine Saturn gives disciplined thinking, good concentration and attention to detail. It makes the abstract concepts from Uranus more tangible and easy to apply in real life. Saturn will also tone down the shocking nature of some Uranus insights. This is a good new moon for making important decisions and for serious discussions, negotiations and business dealings.

“Saturn trine Uranus represents a transition phase in life. This is the ideal time to make positive changes in your life because they should run smoothly. Change will not be upsetting or erratic as it sometimes can. You will remain calm and patient, planning every step methodically. This is also a good time for experimentation and creative self-expression.”

Perhaps some Taurus New Moon inspired downtime is exactly what your mind, body, and soul need to see the world more clearly, and receive your next great insight?

Other considerations

With no major planetary aspects to the Taurus New Moon, perhaps the more minor ones will take on more importance.

Moon’s Nodes

If you look beyond the planets, a trine from the Taurus New Moon to the Moon’s North Node in Virgo may have a tale to tell.

Kathy Biehl explains:

“Watered by emotions, with slow and steady nurturing, the plantings of this New Moon have the potential to grow into tangible support and satisfaction. It has an air of fated-ness, of supposed-to-be, with the New Moon making a wide trine to the Virgo North Node of destiny.  That contact is a benediction of sorts for the 18-month journey through Virgo the node is wrapping up, and the coming flourishing is what we’ve been working toward.

“It could end up feeling like heaven on earth. With Venus in the waters of higher love, and their ruler Neptune offering assistance, divine or ecstatic experiences are certainly possible down here on terra firm.

“It might also pervade and elevate modest, ordinary aspects of life … which goes for your body as well. Treat it as your temple and, by all means, stay in it. It’s the vehicle for exploring and experiencing the growth coming from the Taurus New Moon. As they used to say, ‘Here is where it’s at.’”

Asteroids

The ruler of the Taurus new Moon, Venus, has recently emerged from her meeting with the “Wounded Healer” — the asteroid Chiron:

“The conjunction between Venus and Chiron incites us to take our pain and turn it into something beautiful, functional, empowering. Once we know what makes us feel starved, deprived, impoverished, we therefore also know what voids to fill, what tears to mend, what wounds to sanitize in order to attain the well-being we deserve.”

Another good question to ask yourself as you contemplate this lunation and what it inspires in you.

Sabian Symbol

Several astrologers have devised degree-by-degree symbols of interpretation; perhaps the most popular one of the last century has been the Sabian Symbols.

The Sabian Symbol for the degree of the Taurus New Moon is: The woman of Samaria at the ancestral well.

In his commentary on the symbols, the astrologer Dane Rudhyar wrote this one symbolized “the meeting of the traditional past and the creative spirit pointing to the future.”

He continued: “The creative future descends first to that which has become chaos. An old order is never open to a new Revelation until it has accepted disorder in the name of that Power which subsumes all forms or order; in other words, Love.”

Lunar Mansion

The 28-day lunar Zodiac is far older than the modern solar one, harkening back to roots in ancient cultures which lived in harmony with the movements of the Moon.

The Taurus New Moon falls in one of the most benefit signs: lunar mansion 3, “Al Thurayya,” which I nicknamed “The Lady.”

It’s a time to receive. Surrender, and allow yourself to receive blessings, good fortune and support from the cosmic mother.

Summing it up

Take the divine respite that’s offered. There’s much more to come over the next months. You must learn to pace yourself, and take solace from a deeper source.
