Have you been feeling bored? Stuck? Held back? Have you been waiting for a situation to open up and get moving already?

Does the Aries New Moon on April 15/16 have something for you!

Nadia Gilchrist, Ruby Slipper Astrology, gives a heads-up:

“This won’t just be a new beginning, it will be surprising, liberating and disruptive. Events will move quickly, and you may have to hit the ground running.”

My forecast calls the New Moon:

“Combustive, explosive, liberating, motivating and propelling, blasting us out of safe confining shells into raw, unfettered form.”

Jamie Partridge, Astrology King, says:

“The April New Moon presents an exciting opportunity to make profound changes that will improve your life forever.”

Want to know how? Let’s see how astrologers around the Web are sizing up this high energy New Moon.

Aries New Moon

A New Moon occurs when the Moon meets the Sun and launches a new cycle. Because the Aries New Moon is the first New Moon of the season, it will feel as if spring has arrived at last.

Fiery Aries is famed for its just-do-it vibe. Ruled by the action-oriented Mars, planets in Aries take his trailblazing zeal to heart.

This is especially the Sun in this New Moon pairing. When the Sun’s in Aries, his brilliance shines even brighter, thanks to his exaltation in this sign. The desire for chase your own dream, regardless of what others may think, rings loud.

Expect the Unexpected

What accounts for this lunation’s unpredictable, disruptive, barrier-busting qualities?  For those, thank the Moon’s tight conjunction to radical, volatile, liberating Uranus. When Uranus in the mix, all bets are off. Anything can happen.

He’s especially poised for combustion now. My forecast explains:

“Their meeting takes us to the breaking point in a process that’s been going on since 2010, when Uranus entered Aries. He moves to Taurus in a month and will not be in Aries during an Aries New Moon (much less conjunct one) for the rest of most of our lifetimes.

“His last hurrah in the sign sees his individuating powers at maximum strength. If you’ve been waiting for the moment to act, push a project forward or take a huge running leap, this is it. Whether you consciously take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime event or not, staying in place is not possible. Surprises, epiphanies and breakthroughs will abound and spur you on.

“This bodes well for resolving situations that have you feeling trapped with no practical way out. This Moon may open an escape hatch, or you may decide you’re not going to take it anymore and bolt for freedom.”

Elsa Elsa urges harnessing the energy and running with it. She sees this New Moon as:

“The last, best, loudest, most garish and energetic time to take advantage of Uranus in Aries. ‘Burning Man’ comes to mind. But really, you just want to reinvent yourself as a FREE INDIVIDUAL.

“There is bound to be some crap in your life, you’re just not going to deal with anymore. You’ll not be responsible… or dependent for that matter. You are a free person in this world!”

Since Uranus is the quick-change artist of the cosmos, characters – and emotions – will careen this way and that, often quite quickly.

“Moon conjunct Uranus makes this moon veer between the kooky, crazed lunatic and the unconventional rebel. It has a pathological need to shock and outrage. But it could also be surprisingly shy and uncomfortable with the notoriety this outrageous behavior brings.

“Those touched by this New Moon may be branded attention-seekers when all they are doing is simply being themselves. This new moon aspect is exciting, electric and quite chaotic. Both the Moon and Uranus are fluctuating and changeable, and emotions often change in a flash.”

Marina Macario, Darkstar Astrology

This goes for you, too.

“You will be excited and ready for a change, for something new. You should feel a strong urge to break free from routine, doing something totally different from your normal activities. To avoid restlessness and nervous tension, it is better to be active and look to do something out of the ordinary, and not wait for change to happen to you.

“Uranus will open up your consciousness to higher vibrations, perhaps resulting in greater self-awareness or even psychic perception. Remaining flexible and open-minded will certainly increase the chance of more pleasant surprises and thrilling experiences. You could meet new and unconventional types of people, or those from very different cultural or social backgrounds than yourself.”

Jamie Partridge, Astrology King

Dark Side of the Moon

This Aries New Moon also squares Pluto, lord of the underworld, in the structure-oriented sign of Capricorn. The aspect is a demand for action, and it forces influences out of the shadows.

Power games are probable. Nadia Gilchrist, Ruby Slipper Astrology, warns:

“The square between the Aries Sun and Pluto will be exact on April 11, so keep your eyes on this date: here is the power play, but it won’t be totally aboveboard. Pluto is the shadow, and when it makes a hard aspect, there will be a challenge involving hidden or manipulative power. You could be making a move, or you could be confronted by someone. Either way, the tremendous push will have more to it than meets the eye, and it will lead to the New Moon’s burst of clarity.

“If you can, avoid manipulative situations/responses. You don’t have control over others, but you do have control over how you react. When the New Moon hits, concentrate on moving ahead with your new truth. Don’t get dragged down by revenge, one-upmanship or fears that you’re going to lose. Just keep your eyes fixed on the future.”

Spring Forward

If you can’t tell already, the time for action is now. Even more so that the lord of the lunation is Mars, who spurs our drive, motivation and actions.

In other words, he’s all about setting things in motion. Lately he’s been channeling his energy especially productively and methodically as he travels through down-to-earth Capricorn, the sign of Mars’ exaltation, helping you stay focused and clear the decks for what’s coming.

And, at this Aries New Moon, Mars gets a spirited boost from a couple cosmic cheerleaders.

One is an uplifting — and sultry — gaze from the lovely head cheerleader Venus; the other a dreamy wave from fantasy-prone Neptune.

My forecast describes the pair’s gifts as:

“Divine love, guidance and inspiration, and maybe a touch of magic that puts you in the right place at the right time, or occasions events that cannot be a coincidence.  The cosmic hand is outstretched. May as well reach for it.”

Jamie Partridge, Astrology King, expands on the Neptune’s earthly potentials.

“Mars sextile Neptune increases your sensual desires making this an ideal time for romance. You should be more sensitive to the needs of others and enjoy sharing this soothing and healing energy. You can also assert this spiritual energy to defend the mistreated or fight for a just cause. A strong sense of what is right and true will guide you in your actions.”

Adding to the romance potential: Worldly actions may well further worldly delights. Mars’ easygoing trine to Venus, was exact April 11, just a few days prior to this New Moon. My forecast elaborates:

“This terrain hosts developments that you want and are motivated to obtain, especially where relationship(s) are involved… Practical and concrete progress in both areas is built into the growing season of this Moon… Venus has been pointing to what she wants and saying, ‘Bring it to me;’ Mars has been responding, ‘Your wish is my command.’”

Gimme Gimme Good Lovin’

However startling or intense events may be, indulgence and deepening relationships are here for us.

Lovely Venus, right at home in her own sign Taurus, encourages taking refuge in create comforts. And, a couple of other planets are encouraging her hedonism.

Jamie Partridge, Astrology King. considers how the opposition from Jupiter in Scorpio gets Venus feeling lucky.

“Venus opposite Jupiter can cause a lack of self-discipline and motivation to work. If you are on vacation then wonderful, you can relax and enjoy life to the fullest and meet new friends or lovers. If you have to work or study you will need to dig deep to find the drive and ambition to get the job done.”

The underworldly Pluto is trining lusty Venus, which opens a conduit between mere mortal levels of desire and the obsessive attractions and enormous wealth at levels that challenge rational comprehension. Jamie Partridge, Astrology King, sees profound benefits for relationships:

“Venus trine Pluto adds intensity and passion to relationships and those things which bring you joy and satisfaction. This is a good New Moon for intimate relationships due to increased desire for love and affection. A mysterious type of sexual attraction and strong karmic pull increases your odds of finding new romance.”

I Feel The Earth Move

Jupiter in Scorpio makes a cooperative sextile to Pluto in Capricorn, which was exact on April 14.

My forecastputs it in context:

“This is the second of their three links. The first was Jan. 15; the last comes Sept. 12. All offer the possibility of bringing hidden treasure (and psycho-beasties) to the surface, clearing away the chaos of recent years and upgrading the structures and systems on which we build our lives.”

Jamie Partridge, Astrology King, examines its benefits:

“It brings success through positive change. You do not have to force change or have to react to unexpected change. This is a natural development in your life associated with increased power and influence, spiritual and personal growth, wealth creation and professional advancement.”

It Only Takes a Moment

Mercury stations direct just hours before the lunation.

Marina Macario, Darkstar Astrology, cuts to the chase:

“It is ready to burst with the truth.”

Nadia Gilchrist, Ruby Slipper Astrology, elaborates:

“Mercury in Aries will station direct on this day, so this will also involve results from Mercury’s retrograde, which began on March 22. The process of questioning, reviews or delays that Mercury Retrograde took you through will end with a bang.

“Mercury direct plus Uranus equals absolute clarity. Whatever this beginning is about, you’ll know it’s a white -hot certainty, and there will be no going back.”

The winged messenger’s about-face may help you process the action as it explodes.  I explain:

“His station creates the illusion of time slowing, which will help keep our wits about us while metaphoric firecrackers are going off. He may also put sufficient drag on information and, importantly, our processing it. Hang in suspense for a few seconds and data may rearrange into realizations that are useful, or at least make sense of the past few weeks (or years).”

Other Considerations

The sky is vast, and so are the number of ways astrologers have found meaning in the heavens above. Let’s look at how some of these additional consideration add meaning, nuance and depth to the Aries New Moon.

Fixed Stars

The Moon is conjunct two fixed stars. Marina Macario, Darkstar Astrology, explores the role of Kurdah:

“The New Moon falls on fixed star Kurdah in the neck of Cepheus the King. Venus and Jupiter rule Aries decan 3 and in this star, they come out dramatically.

“Manilus gives an interesting interpretation of Cepheus. He regards the King as a tragic actor saying ‘It gives authority and a sober mind, sometimes making its natives judges or arbitrators, but exposes to cruel and severe trials, whose pen is drenched in blood and the paper. (His audience) no less will revel in the spectacle of crime and catastrophe in human affairs.’ Sounds a little like YouTubers (Actors) being accused of having blood-drenched pens. These ‘thought criminals’ are being arrested for WORDS as if they were actual violent crimes!’

Jamie Partridge, Astrology King, looks at Al Pherg, which is Pisces.

“Robson said it gives preparedness, steadiness, determination and final success. This is a terrific star to have with a New Moon. It means your fresh start or new project has a great chance of succeeding.

“You can be confident about completing your goal or mission because fixed star Al Pherg makes you ready and determined to succeed.”

Asteroids & Minor Planets

Chiron enters Aries two days after the New Moon. Nadia Gilchrist, Ruby Slipper Astrology, ties his move to the lunation:

“The Wounded Healer exits Pisces for Aries on April 17. Chiron in Pisces was about surrender and acceptance as the path to healing.

“Chiron in Aries will be about fighting for what’s essential, even if it hurts, and even if it puts you on the outside (you’ll actually be ahead of the curve — Aries is the sign of the pioneer). Chiron in Aries can stick out like the proverbial sore thumb, and you may be confronted with situations where you’re lacking courage and initiative. And that’s exactly what you’ll need to access. Note that Chiron does not deny you courage and initiative, he only urges you to deal with your insecurities about these things. You may have to step forward when you really don’t want to.

“Consider how this Moon’s new chapter might involve a new approach to healing, weakness and courage.”

The Moon is conjunct the asteroid Phaethon. He’s a son of the sea nymph Clymene and the Sun god Helios, who took the reins of the chariot of the Sun to prove his paternity and drove so recklessly that Zeus struck him down to save the earth.

Alex Miller, Alex’s Asteroid Astrology, explains the overreaching youth’s astrological meaning:

“Phaethon represents assuming responsibilities before one is ready to handle them; the consequences of rash or impulsive desires; and feeling out of control or in above one’s head. It can also indicate involvement with cars or other forms of transport.”

Decans

Each astrological sign can be divided into three sections, known as decans (10 degree divisions of the Zodiac). This Moon is in Aries decan 3, which is ruled by Venus and Jupiter.

Maria Macario, Darkstar Astrology, views this decan as:

“a raging sea and a tsunami of flaming emotions. Aries decan 3 needs to make love not war, but if it can’t make love then the war can get very monstrous indeed.”

She continues:

“The dark lunacy of this decan is something that the imagination can really thrive in. So it is really important that we have some creative outlet with which to unleash our passions.”

Sabian Symbols

Over the years, astrologers have devised systems to assign meaning to each degree of the Zodiac. The most popular of the past century has been the Sabian Symbols, proposed by Marc Edmund Jones.

The Sabian Symbol for the 27th degree of Aries is: “Through Imagination a Lost Opportunity Is Regained.”

In his commentary on the Symbol, astrologer Dane Rudhyar gave it the keynote of “Revision of attitude and inner reevaluation.”  He explained, “The mind must first ‘imagine’ that which he will then be able sooner or later to actually experience.”

Lunar Mansion

Western astrologers are familiar with the 12-sign Solar Zodiac. But there’s also a lesser-known 28-sign Lunar Zodiac, which Arab astrologers called the Lunar Mansions.

This Aries New Moon falls in Lunar Mansion 3, which the Arab astrologers called Al Thurayya (Many Little Ones).

Donna Woodwell of Donna Philosophica nicknamed it “The Lady.” She says, “The mansion’s purpose is to receive blessings, good fortune and support.”

She counsels: “Ask for favors and assistance. Pursue creative and inventive projects. But don’t overindulge yourself. (And be cautious around water.)”

Summing It Up

This Aries New Moon will have us hopping. It promises volatility, unpredictability and fast-breaking action.

Astrologers have a variety of last words on this event. Marina Macario, Darkstar Astrology, focuses on its effect on relationships:

“In relationships, it could be make-or-break time. Uranus will force change if one does not make that change willingly. It is time to be brave and even provocative if you want to take control of the new moon’s revolutionary energy.

“The worst thing to do at this New Moon would be to suppress anger as it could cause a right old tempest later on. Cards need to be put on the table and truth exposed. It might be the time when affairs are confessed to or hidden love is declared after a battle of the sexes.”

Jamie Partridge, Astrology King, takes a general tact:

“Being open-minded and proactive about change will increase your chance of being pleasantly surprised by the results.”

My advice? Go for it.

“If you’ve been waiting for the moment to act, push a project forward or take a huge running leap, this is it.”
